Hamer and Wright to Speak at NBI Seminar on Estates, Trusts & Probate

Hamer Law Group attorneys Chris Hamer and Rebecca Wright will be among the speakers presenting in an upcoming seminar hosted by the National Business Institute. The event titled, “The Probate Process from Start to Finish: Handling Probate from Initial Notices through the Estate Closing,” will be held on June 11, 2019 in Montgomery, Alabama.

According to NBI, the seminar is designed to provide an "a through z" guide to probate is designed to take you from the first days of the estate timeline through all the steps of marshaling and valuing estate assets, locating and paying the creditors, paying the beneficiaries, and laying the estate to rest. The seminar is intended for professionals who want to be more effective in handling the probate process, including: attorneys, paralegals, CPAs and accountants, financial planners and wealth managers, tax professionals and trust officers. Lawyers can receive continuing legal education (CLE) credit hours and register for the webinar here.

Hamer and Wright will present on the Sale of Property and Distributions. The discussion will include the disposition of real estate - title issues in probate, retirement plans and IRA distributions, life insurance and other beneficiary designations and accounts, preliminary and final distributions, calculating augmented estate and spousal elective share, dealing with the surviving family members and other beneficiaries, solving the problem of liquidity and distributions to trusts.

Additionally, Hamer and Wright will present on the topics of Final Accounting and Closing the Estate, including, estate accounting procedure, closing for fiduciaries, closing decedent's remaining accounts, personal representative and attorney compensation, extraordinary services compensation and when reopening the estate is warranted.

Hamer regularly advises and represents clients on issues, including: probate and estate matters, civil litigation, probate support for personal injury litigation, estate administration, estate and trust litigation, and taxation. He was recognized by Birmingham Magazine in its Top Attorneys list in the areas of probate law (2017, 2018) and tax law (2017) and was selected to the 2018 Mid-South’s Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers for Estate & Trust Litigation.

Wright focuses her practice on opening estates, probate administration, guardianships/conservatorships, probate support for personal injury and wrongful death cases, and civil litigation. She is a member of the Alabama Bar Association (Real Property, Probate & Trust Section) and Birmingham Bar Association (Probate Section).
